Three county roads, one intersection
Two closely-spaced intersections will soon be combined to improve mobility for Woodbury and Cottage Grove motorists.
County roads 20 and 22, also known as Military Road and 70th Street South will essentially be one intersection at Woodbury Drive (County Road 19), according to the plans.
Washington County Engineer Cory Slagle said the project will improve mobility and fix deteriorated pavement conditions.
The intersection of county roads 20 and 19 is just one-eighth of a mile away from county roads 22 and 19, with stop signs at both that slow down traffic, he said.
The plan is to construct a single-lane roundabout and add eastbound access to County Road 20 as well as westbound access to County Road 22 from the same intersection.
Crews will begin construction in May and complete most of the work this summer. Finishing touches are slated for completion next spring.
A temporary bypass will be built to accommodate traffic going north and south, however, westbound traffic will be temporarily closed and detoured during construction.
"We do have a lot going on in the area with construction going on in Woodbury," Slagle said, adding that the bypass will "keep traffic moving."
The $7.7 million project is funded through Washington County, South Washington Watershed District, Cottage Grove city funds and right-of-way acquisitions.
Washington County officials approved agreements with the other two agencies at their April 19 meeting to move forward with the project this year.
This project will join a few others in the county that will likely delay school buses, according to a statement issued by the South Washington County School District.
Construction began last week and closed off Radio Drive from Bailey Road south to Hargis Parkway. It's scheduled to re-open at the end of July, according to Woodbury city officials.
That project is re-routing East Ridge High School students to the Bailey Road and Pioneer Drive access to the school.
Woodbury Drive will also be under construction from Park Crossing to one-quarter mile south of Bailey Road.
A Pioneer Drive extension from Hargis Parkway south about a half mile to Dale Road will soon start, along with closures at Mile Drive, from Bailey Road south to Dale Road.
Additional Woodbury street rehabilitation projects will have crews working on Tahoe Road, Carver Park Drive and Carver Park Circle; Woodlane Hills and Victoria Place; Glen Road (Century Avenue to Radio Drive); and Rolling Acres and Century Avenue (Kalen Drive to Military Road), all expected start May 13.
