Thinking outside the heart-shaped box this year
Valentine’s Day is a favorite of so many people. In fact, they can’t wait to decorate their offices, classrooms or cubicles with all things red, cupids and candy hearts. They invest in lacy, paper doilies and red construction stock, all with plans of designing their loved ones a personal message on a homemade Valentine.
Valentine’s Day falls on Friday and hopefully you have reservations at your favorite restaurant for the special evening. If not, now is the time to get creative. Be sure to buy your lovely a card at a local card shop, along with flowers and candy. Do women ever get tired of fresh flowers on her desk at work or the counter in the kitchen? I promise you…no! Enjoying colorful, spring bouquets as the snow continues to fall outside and winter persistently hangs on can bring us all a sense of hopefulness that warmer weather is on the way.
You can also try calling the one of five barbershop quartets from the Croix Chordsmen Chorus to visit your loved one at their place of work. Give them a call at 651-439-4527 or find them at www.stcroixvalleychapter.com and ask if they still have openings on Friday. If you can’t engage them at this late date, ask your partner if you can download a song list to their iPod so they invigorate their daily workout. They will be happy to have a renewed list for exercising as they prepare for the upcoming season of shorts and capris or muscle shirts and swim suits.
If you still have your guy to buy for, think of a gift certificate to a local massage center that will give him an hour of relaxation and rejuvenation. He’ll thank you for it during his visit and for days afterward, as he continues to experience the rewards of his time of rest and personal attention.
From the guys for the gals, I promise you she will love a facial at one of our fantastic, local spas, located all throughout the city. It will give her a moment to stop and allow someone to pamper her for an hour, giving her an experience that will refresh her and bring a glow to her face. She’ll be so grateful for your attentiveness.
Valentine’s Day is a special day, half-way between Christmas and the first day of spring, offering us an opportunity to express our love and gratitude to those who share our lives and our love. Remembering to say, “I love you” in a unique way will ensure they know how much you love them. Take time today to be sure Friday is special for both of you.
