Suspected drunken driver pursued by helicopter in Woodbury

A Minnesota State Patrol helicopter was deployed Sunday night in an effort to track down a suspected drunken driver in Woodbury.

According to Woodbury Police Cmdr. John Altman, police were called at about 8 p.m. Sunday for a crash at the Lake Road-Woodbury Drive roundabout.

The driver, a female, got out and fled on foot. Altman said witnesses reported the woman appeared drunk.

Despite the help of the State Patrol helicopter and several Woodbury squads, the suspect was not located.

Altman said the woman’s vehicle was seriously wrecked and inflicted damage to a sign at the roundabout, though damage estimates were pending.
