Summer roadwork update for Woodbury
Roadwork. It's a rite of summer. And there's plenty of it ongoing in Woodbury.
Here's the rundown on summer road improvement projects, according to a recent city update.
Century Avenue /
Valley Creek Road
Residents and travelers venturing near Century Avenue will continue to experience some delays as the first road improvement project will continue through the summer. A section of Century just south of Upper Afton Road will continue to remain closed for another week or two, said Woodbury Public Works deputy director Klayton Eckles during a recent city council meeting. Traffic movement in the area is restricted and alternate routes are encouraged.
A section of roadwork along Pioneer Drive from Bailey Road to Hargis Parkway is nearing completion. The roads are likely to open in the next few weeks and a new traffic light at Pioneer and Bailey is expected to be up an running in time for the opening of the new East Ridge High School.
Some landscaping and minor correctional work is being done on a section of Radio Drive between Valley Creek Road and Bailey Road. The work is the last minor phase of an improvement project that saw the completion of a new roundabout at Radio and Bailey in late 2007.
Orange cones are becoming a all too familiar sight along I-494 between I-94 and Lake Road. The Mn-DOT project to improve the road surface and add a continuous third lane to I-494 has been underway since early summer and will continue to be ongoing for the next year, Mn-DOT officials have said.
Traffic on the road is expected to experience congestion during some partial lane closures in the area.
There may also be a few instances this summer when the workers will close some of the exit or entrance ramps on Lake Road, Valley Creek Road and Tamarack Road, Eckles told Woodbury City Council members during a June 24 meeting.
The city is expected to issue public notices in advance of any exit and entrance ramp closings along I-494.
Any entrance and exit ramp closings are most likely to occur during the weekends or overnight, Eckles said.
Sandlewood Road / Alderwood Drive
Two areas on the west side of town will see construction over the next few weeks. Alderwood Drive is already under construction. Construction is expected to begin on Sandlewood Road after July 4. Construction on both roads are part of the city's 2009 road rehabilitation project.
A third area slated for construction this summer in the 2009 road rehabilitation program is Queens Drive near Target in the Woodbury Village shopping center.
A road improvement project in the Kingsfield addition near Cottage Grove Drive and Lake Road was started at the end of last month. Construction will mostly effect residents in the area. City officials have made residents aware of the project, which at times will leave access to some driveways blocked during the construction.
