The following information has been received from university or family sources.

• The University of Wisconsin, Madison has announced the names of students recognized by the dean at the close of the semester for having achieved at a high level academically. Students from this area named to the Dean's List for the spring semester of the 2008-2009 academic year include:


Lauren Marie Anastos, Veronica Marie Polinske, Brittney Ann Bielenberg, Marta Anne Bogenschultz, Margaret E. Cook, Brian Richard Kaufenberg, Karin Lea Rasmussen, Jon Charles Ylinen, Lauren Elizabeth Johnsen, Carolyn Leigh Akin, Nicole Marie Belisle, Cullen Kelly Bergh, Timothy John Busse, Tim John Donoghue, Jack Patrick Doyle, William Arthur Grosdidier, Lacey Jean Halfen, Ryan Lee Hanson, Tammie Jean Haveman, Sandra Kathryn Jorgensen, Matthew John Kvistad, Trina Marie Lawrence, Willis Edward Lyle, Justine Holly Mann, Jonathan Andrew Musser, Dominic Mario Pitera, Alyssa Moran Rekow, Matthew Leonard Schwartz, Laura Walsh Stewart, Thomas Allen Thorvaldson, Gregory M. Schools or colleges at the university typically require students to rank in the top 10 percent of their class or achieve a grade point average of 3.75 or higher in order to receive this honor.

• The following students from this area graduated at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa spring commencement ceremonies: Allison Marie Drtina graduated magna cum laude; Anders John Holine, graduated cum laude and in honors program; Jordan Carter Lunde; and Jeffrey Anders Peterson.

• Ryan Larson of Woodbury received a bachelor of arts degree in business administration from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, S.D.

• The following students from this area have been named to the St. Cloud State University Dean's List for academic excellence: Maisee Her, Natalie Marie Wright, Haley Elizabeth Aldridge, Jared Thomas Aldridge, and Christopher Thomas Fleck.

To be eligible for the honor, students must have a grade point average of 3.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

• The following local individuals graduated with bachelor of arts degrees from Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter during the school's annual commencement exercises on Sunday, May 31: Jens Hagstrom, Kristen Chirafisi, Jacob Hansen, Mario Cuevas, Ryan Dobbs (magna cum laude), Katherine Kammerude, Katherine Mason (magna cum laude), and David Pearson (summa cum laude). Students earning summa cum laude have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.9 and above; magna cum laude is awarded to students earning a cumulative GPA of 3.7-3.899.

• The following students from Woodbury have been awarded honors from the University of Minnesota, Morris (UMM).

Sheila Nezhad, daughter of Sandee and Hameed Nezhad, has been named a Scholar of the College and is a recipient of the Management/Economics Alumni Award and a Bos Undergraduate Research Award. A graduate of The Math and Science Academy, Woodbury, Nezhad graduated this spring with an economics and management major. As a student she participated as a DJ at the student radio station KUMM, in the campus dance ensemble and as a peer tutor. Her future plans include working in a nonprofit sector.

Owen Kinsky, son of Timothy and Mary Jo Kinsky, has been named a Scholar of the College. A graduate of Woodbury High School, Kinsky graduated this spring with a biochemistry major and a biology minor. His future plans include attending graduate school in pharmacology and toxicology at the University of Arizona.

Kate Novotny, daughter of Al and Mary Novotny, Woodbury, has been named a Scholar of the College.

A graduate of Woodbury High School, Novotny will graduate in 2010 with an English major and a philosophy minor. As a UMM student she participated as the president of Sigma Tau Delta. Her future plans include graduate school and work towards a doctoral degree in English literature.

Scholar of the College awards are presented annually to students who demonstrate distinguished contributions to scholarship in one or more of the academic disciplines.

The Management/ Economics Alumni Award is presented to a graduating discipline senior who has achieved academic excellence and has provided service to the discipline and the Morris campus.

The Bos Research Fund was established to enhance the successful undergraduate research experiences of UMM students.

• Joel Kachel, a 2005 graduate of Woodbury High School, recently received his associate of applied science in horticulture technology and landscaping from Century College and started the landscape design and installation company Environmental Havens.

As a singer-songwriter, he has produced a CD of some of his original works (vocal/acoustic guitar) and regularly performs at schools, coffee shops, restaurants, clubs, fairs, fundraisers, private events and competitions and other venues within the local Minnesota and Wisconsin regions.

• Joseph Blanchard, Katelyn Jorgensen, Alexis Stoxen, and Lauren Stoxen, all of Woodbury, have been named to the Dean's List for the spring 2009 semester at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis.

• Kristen Feders of Woodbury has been named to the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management undergraduate Dean's List for academic performance in the spring semester 2009, earning a grade point average of 3.666 or higher. According to information provided by the school, only a few students achieve the honor each semester.

• Katherine Lynne Gaffney of Woodbury has been named to the 2009 spring semester Dean's List at Juniata College, Huntingdon, Pa. The dean's list recognizes grade point averages of at least 3.6 out of a possible 4.0. Gaffney is the daughter of Joseph and Kelly Gaffney and is a sophomore studying biology. She is a 2008 graduate of Woodbury High School.

• Brianna Zilles, daughter of Susan Pierre-Zilles and Russ Zilles of Woodbury, was named to the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management, spring semester 2009 Dean's list. Students named to the list are recognized for outstanding academic achievement by earning a 3.66 grade point average or higher for the semester. Zilles is a 2008 graduate of Woodbury High School.

• The University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point conferred degrees on the following local graduates during the university's 2009 spring commencement ceremonies: Marshall E. Bullis, Jennifer L. Boyd (cum laude), Stacy M. DeMorrow (cum laude), and Jeffrey W. Schrimp.

Undergraduate students from this area attaining high grade point averages during the spring semester of the 2008-09 academic semester include: Jenna K. Daggit (high honors), Jennifer L. Boyd (highest honors), Stacy M. DeMorrow (highest honors), Ellen J. McCartney (honors) and Matt T. Vellella (honors).

Full-time undergraduates earning grade points of 3.90 to 4.0 are given the highest honors designation. High honor citations go to those with grade point averages from 3.75 to 3.89 and honor recognition is accorded to those with grade point averages from 3.50 to 3.74.

• The College of Visual Arts, St. Paul recently announced that Andrew Conway of Woodbury graduated with a bachelor of fine arts degree and participated in the school's annual commencement exercises on Friday, May 8.

• The University of Minnesota, Duluth has announced its Dean's List for spring semester 2009. Students on the list have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher: Kristina R. Coleman, Meagan R. Hunstad, Rachel M. Beeler, Calvin J. Behling, Shane R. Benthin, Timothy C. Bystrzycki, David A. Engesser, Ashley A. Gaugler, Ashley H. Gilbertson, Alexander C. Houck, Vanessa N. Hurst, Adam C. Kassekert, Laura B. Kolb, Selina M. Merkling, Eryn Muenchau, Kevin D. O'Connell, Jordan M. Pagel, Sean M. Pallas, Jessica L. Peterson, Linnea M. Philippi, Nikolas D. Schaal, William A. Schulz, Reilly M. Slind, Dana L. Swendiman, Jennifer M. Swenson, Kyle A. Swenson, Dustin M. Vogel, and Emily M. Vomastek.

• Emily Louise Mathews of Woodbury was recently graduated magna cum laude from Ripon College, Ripon, Wis. She was awarded a bachelor of arts degree. Mathews majored in religion/psychology. She earned a bachelor of arts degree.

• Joe Kennedy of Woodbury was named to the 2009 spring semester Dean's List at the University of South Dakota by achieving a GPA of at least 3.5.

• The students listed below have been named to the Concordia University, St. Paul spring 2009 semester Dean's List for superior academic performance. Students named to the list have earned a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Students from Woodbury include: Christina Bredeson, Natasha Brumm, Laurie Carlson, Christopher Hulme-Lowe, Kirk Ingram, Nicholas Jarrett, Ana Jenny, Nicole Lyman, Sara Merkel-Jacobs, Stephanie Pfotenhauer, Thomas Schoenberg, Natalie Underwood, and Choua Vang.

• Erin Hunter of Woodbury was recently named to the Spring 2009 Dean's List for exemplary academic performance at Westminster College, Fulton, Mo.

To be included on the list, you must have a 3.60 semester grade point average with at least 12 hours completed that semester. Hunter is a freshman at the college.

• The following students were among local students named to the DePaul University, Chicago, Ill. winter quarter Dean's List: Hillary A. Pennella, Meghan E. Kindler, Melissa Benavides Enanoza, and Jordan M. Olson. To receive the commendation, full-time students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above on a four-point scale.
