The following information on student achievements has been received from university or family sources.

• Michael Svendsen of Woodbury was the recipient of an Iowa State University, Ames High Scholarship Award in the College of Engineering during an April 5 ceremony at the university. The award is given to undergraduate students who rank in the top 2 percent of their college class.

• Sharon Holte, a 2005 graduate of Woodbury High School, has graduated with honors from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Rapid City, S.D. with a bachelor of science degree in geology with a paleontology emphasis.

Holte was recently accepted for graduate school at East Tennessee State University, Johnson City where she will work on a master's degree in biology with a paleontology emphasis and will start her course work in July.

She has been awarded a National Science Foundation Fellowship to work on her research program and also to work with teachers, part time, at a local K-12 school in Johnson City to teach and develop curricular materials including experiments and demonstrations.

Her research project includes extensive fieldwork excavating and studying the giant American sloth at a site in Alabama.

Holte's goal is to complete her PhD, become a professor, teach at a university, and conduct extensive fieldwork in paleontology all over the world.

She is the daughter of Diane and Rich Holte of Woodbury.

• DeAnna Slevin of Woodbury, a graduate of Woodbury High School, was awarded a bachelor of science degree Summa Cum Laude from Minnesota State University, Moorhead where she majored in English Education.

The following area students participated in the commencement ceremony at the College of Saint Benedict, St. Joseph on Saturday, May 9.

• Natalie Dimberg, daughter of Al and Sharon Dimberg of Woodbury, was a candidate to receive a bachelor of arts degree in music, summa cum laude. Summa cum laude is awarded for a grade point average of 3.90-3.99.

• Christa Edlund, daughter of Mark and Deborah Edlund of Woodbury, was a candidate to receive a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education.

• Leigh I. Bartholomew, daughter of Patricia and James Bartholomew of Lake Elmo, was a candidate to receive a bachelor of arts degree in psychology.

The following area students were graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Menomonie, in May:

From Afton: Nina Dubois, BS apparel design and development/apparel design concentration; Eric Melzer, BS construction; from Lake Elmo: Ryan Downs, BS information and communication technologies; and from Woodbury: Stephanie Chitek, BS dietetics; Jonathan Hiner, BS general business administration; Alexa LeMay, BS retail merchandising and management/fashion marketing concentration; Megan Lienemann, BS general business administration; Jessica Padellford, BS human development and family studies; Andrew Peterson, BS construction; and Chandra Westberg, BS hotel, restaurant and tourism management/lodging/resort development and tourism.
