Stealth tower work to start within weeks
Work on Afton's stealth tower is due to start in early October.
The tower, which will be designed to resemble a pine tree and carry the equipment necessary to enable Washington County's emergency communications system to go live, is expected to be completed by the end of November.
Capt. Steve Pott, of the Washington County Sheriff's Office, reported Friday that some landscaping and exterior work on the garage and house at the tower location of 15326 Afton Hills Court may extend beyond that date.
He added that the deadline for bids to construct the tower had now passed and would be reviewed over the coming weeks.
An outstanding NEPA (National Environmental Protection Act) assessment is also expected within the next two to three weeks.
