Sports Announcements: East Ridge baseball turkey bingo, Hale to the Bird 5K and more

East Ridge baseball turkey bingo fundraiser

The East Ridge Baseball Diamond Club and East Ridge Athletic Association traveling baseball are hosting their annual Turkey Bingo fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 16, at River Oaks Golf Course in Cottage Grove. Any parent, grandparent or other adult that wants to support East Ridge baseball is invited to the social hour and silent auction beginning at 6:30 p.m. Auction items typically include sports tickets and clothing, gift certificates for local businesses and gift packages with holiday and local themes. Turkey bingo and the meat raffle will start at 7 p.m. with East Ridge head coach Brian Sprout calling the numbers. Food and drink will be available for purchase, and a portion of the food and beverage proceeds will be donated back to the baseball programs. The fun and friendship are free. Hale to the Bird 5K fundraiser run

The fourth Hale to the Bird 5K run, benefiting the Friends In Need Food Shelf, will be held 9 a.m. Thanksgiving day (Thursday, Nov. 28) at Hamlet Park in Cottage Grove. The race is open everyone no matter what age or skill - the event is for both walkers and runners. Cost is $20 before Nov. 8 and $30 after Nov. 8, including on race day. Community Education winter sports sign-up

Winter is quickly approaching and District 833 Community Education is gearing up for its Middle School Athletics Program. Brochures were dropped off at Cottage Grove, Lake, Oltman, and Woodbury middle schools during the first week of October. Sports include: Seventh and eighth grade boys and girls basketball and boys wrestling (grades 6-8). Registrations will be on a first come first serve basis.
