The scoop: Prepare for temporary vacancy at Central Park eatery, city announces
Four businesses are vying to fill an eatery space at Woodbury's Central Park that will soon be closed -- at least temporarily.
The city announced Thursday that Cups 'n Scoops, Angelina's Kitchen, Cravings and a business proposing to operate under the title Central Park Cafe and Creamery are in the running for a new lease at the space currently occupied by Cups 'n Scoops, which is adjacent to the R.H. Stafford Library.
The lease expires at the end of the day today, Oct. 31, and will sit vacant until Woodbury City Council renders a decision on which of the four businesses will enter into a lease agreement with the city. According to a city news release, that could mean the space will sit empty until the first quarter of 2014 while lease negotiations take place.
Cups 'n Scoops has occupied the space since 2003.
"Cups 'n Scoops has been a terrific partner for the city and our guests at Central Park," Woodbury Recreation Supervisor Jodi Sauro said in a news release. "We already renewed the original lease twice and have reached the renewal limit. We were required to solicit new proposals and negotiate a new lease."
The release states city staff interviewed the four finalists this week and will soon identify the final choice.
