A commercial development anchored by SuperTarget in Woodbury is starting to take off with multiple tenants lined up and ready to open this spring.

A new building to the east of Target will soon have a Bruegger's Bagels, European Wax Center, Vivie Nails and Spa and a Great Clips, according to developers.

"We have a significant amount of interest in this development, which is really encouraging," said Paul Maenner, partner of MW Development, which owns the land.

The building itself will be done in about a month. It will have room for a total of five tenants, four of which will move in to do their own construction and open by May, he added.

MW Development owns the 36-acre land, located near the I-94 and Woodbury Drive exit and can be accessed off of Commerce Drive or Tamarack Road.

The first building to go up was SuperTarget, which opened about two years ago. Then CorTrust Bank came and opened in the summer of 2011.

Maenner said the development is attracting a variety of businesses, but how fast it'll fill up will depend on market trends.

However, the location of the development, as well as the fact that it's anchored by SuperTarget gives it an edge. Meanwhile the increasing population of eastern Woodbury gives it potential.

"We have seven additional land sites that we can develop," he said. "There is room for restaurants, there is room for medical practices, there is room for financial service firms, there is room for day care..."

One business that many residents are patiently waiting for is McDonald's, which got approval from city officials last fall for a location east of this multi-tenant building.

City Planner Eric Searles said McDonald's is set to go up soon with plans to open later this year as well.

The developers say Woodbury is a desirable community for a whole host of reasons and are looking forward to getting this center filled with various tenants.

"The eastern part of Woodbury is really poised to take off and we're in extremely good position to help serve the population," Maenner said, adding, "We're really fortunate to have our flag in the sand in this location."

In addition to the Woodbury project, MW Development is currently working on projects in Oakdale, Anoka and Lino Lakes.
