Raptors' Perch christened with a victory
The Raptors Perch was christened with a victory Tuesday night as the East Ridge volleyball team opened the school's gymnasium with a victory in its first varsity hosting.
"You can't win 'em all if you don't win the first one," Raptors coach Katie Plummer enthusiastically stated.
The East Ridge spikers, who nearly defeated Edina last week in its first-ever game, swept the Governors in three-straight games to claim the program's inaugural triumph: 25-17, 25-16, 25-9.
Junior outside hitter Felecia Ulrich led the Raptors with 14 kills and nine digs, while junior defensive specialist Cassie Yurick had eight digs.
Another junior, outside hitter/setter Dale Hoeffel, recorded a team-high six service aces. Hoeffel successfully served the first eight points of the final game as East Ridge ran away with the clinching set, with Ulrich raining down a resounding kill to claim the victory for the hosts.
East Ridge travels to Woodbury High School on Monday night for the first cross-town matchup between the neighboring institutions.
