A man convicted in a Woodbury domestic assault case received a prison sentence last month.

Giovanni J. Edunjobi, 23, was sentenced April 9 by Washington County District Court Judge Ellen Maas to 32 months in prison.

The Minneapolis man was convicted in August 2012 after pleading guilty to one count of domestic assault by strangulation, a felony.

Edunjobi,  who has a string of convictions ranging from violating domestic-abuse no contact orders to domestic assault, stretching back to 2009, allegedly choked a woman inside a vehicle parked at Central Park.

A criminal complaint alleged Edunjobi began arguing with a woman known to him May 16, 2012, outside the YMCA, which led to an assault. The complaint states Edunjobi punched the woman in the face, then choked her to the point that she was unable to breathe. Police later found Edunjobi with defensive scratch marks on his face that were consistent with the woman's report of attempting to fight him off.

Edunjobi had an active domestic abuse no contact order against him at the time. At the time, he also had two pending cases in Washington County related to the no-contact order.
