Police dogs demonstrate unique skills

Gunshots, helicopters and police sirens were heard from miles away.

But it wasn't a pursuit or a crime being committed that brought more than 70 K-9 police officers and dogs to Woodbury on Sunday.

The Region 18 K-9 trials were held for three days and the public got to see the action up close on the East Ridge High School football field this weekend.

Audience members of all ages applauded, cheered and appeared impressed by the dogs' ability to respond to various types of orders from their handlers.

All of the dogs that were registered to compete in the trials were seeking certification as police K-9s by passing all of the requirements during the trials.
