Plea hearing set for Red Roof Inn shooting suspect
The man who allegedly held 11 people hostage at gunpoint in a Red Roof Inn motel room last summer is scheduled for a plea hearing Thursday, June 13.
Demetrius Santreell Ballinger, 26, is facing 27 felony counts that include second degree attempted murder and first degree criminal sexual conduct.
The incident that happened in August of 2012 led to a four-hour standoff and the death of one of the victims, Mark E. Henderson, who was shot by police after fleeing the motel room.
Ballinger had allegedly threatened victims - ranging in age from 15 to 19 years old - with a 9mm handgun, robbed them and raped four of the minors, according to court documents.
Ballinger is also accused of firing the first shot at Henderson before he fled, the complaint states.
Earlier this year, a Washington County grand jury declined to indict the three Woodbury police officers involved in the fatal shooting of Henderson.
Details of the plea hearing were not immediately available.
