Eden Prairie wasn't messing around.

After suffering its only loss in six seasons to Blake in last year's state final, Eden Prairie - the No. 1 ranked team in the state - wasn't about to the Park-Woodbury girls lacrosse team pull off an even more surprising upset in the Royal Pack's first trip to the state tournament. The Eagles (16-1) defeated Park-Woodbury 19-2 in the opening round on Tuesday, June 2 at Hopkins High School.

Eden Prairie, which opened up a 13-1 halftime lead, scored 40 seconds into the game to go ahead 1-0 and led 5-0 less than seven minutes after the opening draw. However, with 10:14 remaining in the first half, Park junior Holly Frankenberg tallied the first goal of the game for the Royal Pack (11-7) to make the score 9-1 in favor of the Eagles.

In the second half, Park sophomore Sophia Bainbridge scored with 43.9 seconds remaining to cap the game's scoring.

For Eden Prairie, senior forward Caz Norwich - a Syracuse recruit - set a new state tournament record with 12 points on seven goals and five assists.

Eden Prairie is arguably the most dominant team in the history of Minnesota in any sport. The Eagles are undefeated against Minnesota teams on the year, outscoring its in-state opponents a combined 225-36 this season, including wins of 17-2 over Bloomington Kennedy, 21-2 over Burnsville and 15-4 over No. 2 ranked Blake.

The fourth-seeded Royal Pack will now take on No. 3 seed Centennial (13-3) on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Mounds View High School in the third-place game. Eden Prairie will face off with Blake (16-1) in a rematch of last year's title game at 8 p.m. at Mounds View.
