Opinions wanted on water
The city of Woodbury has completed a draft surface water management plan for public and government agency comment.
State law requires the city to prepare a surface water management plan (SWMP) that is consistent with the plans of the three watershed districts with jurisdiction in Woodbury.
The Metropolitan Council also requires the inclusion of a SWMP element in the city's comprehensive plan.
The goal of the SWMP is to protect and enhance surface water, groundwater and related land resources by developing water management plans at a local level.
The draft plan contains details to minimize public capital expenditures, establish more uniform local policies for surface and groundwater management, prevent soil erosion, promote groundwater recharge and protect and enhance fish and wildlife habitat, as well as water recreational facilities. It is now available for review.
To view the document, visit www.ci.woodbury.mn.us. From the home page, click on "Environment," then select "Water Quality."
A copy is also available for review in the Community Development Department at Woodbury City Hall.
The 60-day public comment period began on July 21.
Written comments must be submitted by 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, to Sharon Doucette, environmental resources coordinator, City of Woodbury, 8301 Valley Creek Road, Woodbury, MN 55125.
