Oh, baby: Special delivery for Woodbury police officer
Woodbury Minnesota 8420 City Centre Drive 55125

A late-night call July 23 on Interstate 94 led to an uncommon experience for a mom-to-be and the Woodbury Public Safety Department.

According to a news release, Woodbury paramedics received a call at 2:20 a.m. for a hospital-bound woman on I-94 who was about to give birth on the side of the highway.

Responders, including Woodbury police officer/paramedic Natalie Bauer, responded. Bauer worked with the woman through the vehicle's passenger door; the baby -- a girl -- was delivered in a few minutes, the release states.

The incident didn't come without some complications. The umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck, a situation for which Bauer's training had prepared her.

Bauer called the incident "a pretty special thing," considering officers often respond to "situations that are not pleasant."

"It's happy moments like this that keep us going," she said in the release.
