No cuts recommended in School District budget
Woodbury Minnesota 8420 City Centre Drive 55125

The District 833 School Board got an overview of a $151 million budget for 2010-2011 that would leave a deficit of $6 million.

No cuts are being recommended, and the money to balance the budget would come from the district's $22 million unallocated fund balance, according to Finance Director Aaron Bushberger, who presented the preliminary budget at the Feb. 4 school board workshop meeting.

After more discussion and recommendations, the board will set the budget at the March 18 board meeting, but changes can be made until the final tax levy is certified to the Washington County Auditor's Office in September.

Bushberger said the tax rate for the district's part of the tax dollar, is expected to remain the same as for this year, but could vary depending on changes in the taxable value of homes and commercial property.

Board members are also concerned about possible efforts to cut aid to schools by the Legislature or Gov. Tim Pawlenty.

A 1-percent cut in state aid would mean $1 million less in revenue, Bushberger said.

The final levy, which can't be increased but can be decreased, is due at the end of the year.
