New Woodbury development, senior home get OK from council
Woodbury Minnesota 8420 City Centre Drive 55125

With a bit of confusion out of the way, Woodbury City Council on Wednesday, Sept. 11, approved a new housing development just south of Valley Creek Road.

The council gave the Princeton Hills development the go-ahead, which paves the way for development of nine homes on 4.4 acres near the Highland Heights development. Approval of the plans includes the elimination of the new development's former name -- Highland Hills, which Senior Planner Eric Searles said had brought about some confusion with the neighboring Highland Heights area.

Unlike a previous public hearing before the city's Planning Commission, no one spoke out about the project during a similar hearing during the council meeting.

Council members approved the project unanimously.

The body also greenlighted initial plans for Edgewood Vista, a senior housing complex set to be built on Century Road south of Lake Road.

That project will combine four parcels into one, where a two-story, 60-unit housing complex will be constructed.

A 2.2-acre portion of the land is owned by the city and is being sold to the developer, Oppidan Investment Co., for $36,185.

Edgewood Vista will be comprised of 32 memory care units and 28 assisted living spaces, according to plans.

Council Member Amy Scoggins asked for more detail after the council was cautioned that a portion of the project will be on land with an abnormally high water table that could be susceptible to a sink hole.

Senior Planner Eric Searles said indications are that the ground will experience settling issues after heavy rainfalls, and while "(it is) something to monitor as this development occurs," it's not something he expressed concerns about. He also noted that the structure will be built on a slab and not with a basement.

Construction on Edgewood Vista is expected to begin this fall.
