New Life Academy track & field: Hagen first in 800 at Cannon Falls meet

The New Life Academy boys track and field team took fifth place and the Eagles girls placed sixth in the nine-team Cannon Falls Invitational on Saturday, April 12, at Cannon Falls High School.


The New Life boys scored 39 points in the meet. The Eagles girls scored 25 points. West Lutheran won the boys side of the meet with 195 points. Belle Plaine-Holy Family won the girls meet with 255 points.

New Life Academy senior Sam Hagen led the Eagles’ boys, winning the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 4.61 seconds. New Life senior Mark Schreiner earned second place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.52 seconds in the finals. Also, sophomore Caleb Nelson placed fifth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:13.50 in the finals and fellow sophomore Jamison Miller took eighth in the 1600 in 5:16.57.

New Life Academy sophomore Abbey Bakken led the way for the Eagles’ girls. Bakken earned second place in the shot put with a heave of 30 feet, 11 inches and third place in the discus throw with a toss of 94 feet, 2 inches. Also, New Life Academy junior Nicole Sward finished in eighth place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 58.58 seconds.  

The New Life boys and girls are set to next compete in a meet on April 24 at St. Croix Lutheran.
