New Life Academy girls soccer: Eagles reach Section 4A semifinals
The New Life girls soccer team advanced to the Section 4A semifinals with a 2-1 win over Concordia Academy of Roseville in the section quarterfinals on Saturday, Oct. 13, in Woodbury.
New Life junior Chloe Westlund and freshman Maddie Sosa each had a goal and assist in the victory, while goalie Theresa Baranick made six saves for the Eagles (15-0-2).
New Life, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, earned a first-round bye prior to beating Concordia Academy.
The Eagles took on third-seeded St. Paul Harding on Tuesday, after the Bulletin went to print. A win over the Knights would place NLA in its second-straight section final, where the Eagles would take on either top-seeded South St. Paul - last year's section champion - or fourth-seeded Simley. The Packers beat NLA 1-0 in last year's Section 4A title game.
The Section 4A Championship game will be played on Thursday, Oct. 18, at the highest seed's field.
NLA finished the regular season 14-0-2 while winning the MCAA regular season conference and MCAA conference tournament titles.
