New Life Academy boys basketball: Eagles win two, improve to 9-2
The New Life Academy boys basketball team won a pair of games last week to run its winning streak to four and improve to 9-2 overall on the year.
The Eagles are currently 4-0 in the Minnesota Christian Athletic Association conference.
Most recently, New Life Academy beat Lakeview Christian Academy 98-78 on the road Saturday, a day after winning 57-39 over Bethany Academy at home on Friday.
The Eagles struggled in the first half against conference foe Bethany Academy (5-5; 0-4 MCAA) on Friday night but got things going in the second to pull away with a 57-39 win. Junior forward Conrad Engstrom led all scorers with 20 points while junior center Jake Wynia came off the bench to ignite the team with 11 rebounds.
The next day the team traveled to Duluth to take on Lakeview Christian. The Eagles were able to run away with a 98-78 win despite 48 points by Bjorn Broman of Lakeview Christian (3-12). Engstrom, who leads the team in scoring at 16.3 points per game, continued his stellar play with 31 points while Wynia added 14 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Junior Sam Horner, senior Sam Nelson and senior John Horner also scored in double figures to lead the Eagles. The team has only one game this week during finals as they travel to Legacy Christian (7-5; 1-2 MCAA) on Thursday in conference play.
