About a dozen single family homes are planned for the Highland Knoll development.

Snowman Construction is proposing to build 13 detached townhomes on the vacant lots this summer, according to an application submitted to the city of Woodbury.

The lots were previously planned as multi-family residential, but the zoning was amended by the Woodbury Planning Commission last week to allow for single family homes.

The Highland Knoll development was approved by City Council in 2005. Building plans were stalled when the area went into foreclosure then sold in an auction for $1.5 million last year.

Ryland Homes is currently building single family homes to the east of the new proposed detached townhomes, City Planner Eric Searles said.

"This is market driven," he said of the types of homes that are going into the development.

The detached style homes will be managed by the same existing homeowners association, Searles said, making it a unified neighborhood.

Another subdivision, Bailey Lake South, was recently approved by the city for 127 single family homes.

The development is part of Phase 2, which kicked off construction as soon as city officials opened it up to builders.

Lennar Homes plans to construct a total of 225 single family homes on 120 acres of land in southern Woodbury.
