Math and Science track & field: Hannula, Siekmeier break school records at first conference championship meet
Brady Hannula and Jacob Siekmeier set school records as the Math and Science Academy boys and girls track and field teams competed in the first Minnesota Charter School Conference Championship Meet this past Tuesday at Richfield High School.
The MSA boys won the inaugural meet with 113 points - ahead of Spectrum's 77 points - and the MSA girls took second place with 67 points. Spectrum won the girls meet with 165 points.
Hannula won the 400-meter dash for the Dragons boys with a school-record time of 54.02 seconds and Siekmeier won the 3200-meter run with a time of 9 minutes, 57.97 seconds, breaking his own record. Siekmeier also won the 1600-meter run (4:55.75), and helped the 1600-meter relay team earn first place to earn All-Conference in three events. In addition to winning the 400, Hannula took second place in the triple jump (33 feet, 3.25 inches), and helped the Dragons' 3200-meter relay team and 1600-meter team each finish in first place to give him four All-Conference honors. In addition, All-Conference honors went to: Peter Irvine, who was second place in the discus, Spencer Lee, who was second in the 110-meter hurdles, Shawn Ramberg, who was second in the 1600-meter run and in the long jump and helped the 1600-meter relay team take first, Noah Stout, who was on the first place 3200 relay and 1600 relay teams, Han Yong Wunrow, who finished in second place in the 3200-meter run and was part of the first-place 3200-meter relay and Bobby Nelson, who helped the 3200-meter relay take first place.
For the Dragons girls, Maddie Ames finished in first place in the discus throw with a toss of 73 feet, 6 inches to earn All-Conference honors. Other All-Conference award winners were: Ellie Haland, who took second place in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:46.83 and the MSA first-place 3200-meter relay team of Atte Kadoma, Elise Lohman, Julia Ing and Ines Siepmann.
Math and Science Academy's next meet is the 4A Sub-section meet at St. Croix Lutheran on Thursday May 24.
