Marketfest kicks off summer music

The 18th annual Marketfest is now underway in downtown White Bear Lake. The festival runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday nights through July 31.

Marketfest is a free, family-friendly festival featuring a variety of art and crafts, games, food, farmer's market, petting zoo and a classic car show.

Marketfest features a number of entertainers this year.

On the Kowalski's Gazebo Stage, regional and national favorites will perform, including the Lamont Cranston Band, Century Jazz Ensemble, Ride, Suede Baby, Scottie Miller & the Re-Uptake Inhibitors, Big Walter Smith & the Groove Merchants, and Brady's Big Band.

The Qwest Third Street Stage will feature local performers, including Paul Christian, Gridlock, Joe Juliano Trio, the Cruisers, Davina & the Vagabonds, John Evans, Dan Perry & Friends, and Feelin' Groovy: the Music of Simon and Garfunkel with Tim Brown and Chris Herriges.

This year, Marketfest will have the Century College Activity Zone in the back parking lot at Third Street and Banning Avenue. Highlights include carnival games, inflatable bounce toys, free face painting and more.

Saturn of White Bear will offer Bunker Park covered wagon rides each night. The wagon rides will load and unload in front of Premier Bank on Third Street traveling up and down Clark Avenue. Rides cost only $2 per person with kids under five free.
