Man charged with making terroristic threats
A 42-year-old local man was charged with terroristic threats-reckless disregard risk April 19.
According to the complaint, Bemidji Police responded April 17 to a report that William Leo Winegar, 42, of Bemidji, was making threats to kill faculty and students at Bemidji State University.
Several witnesses stated Winegar had repeatedly been making references to wanting to kill people at BSU, the report said.
Officers arrested Winegar and transported him to Beltrami County Law Enforcement Center. One witness stated Winegar had made references to this in the past, but after the Virginia Tech massacre, he became more vocal about his fantasies about carnage at BSU, the report said.
Winegar refused to make any statements to the police. Winegar pleaded guilty to felony terroristic threats in July 1990, the report said.
Winegar remains in the Beltrami County Jail on $75,000 bail.
