Elements Therapeutic Massage is now open at the corner of Tamarack Road at Tamarack Village shopping center in Woodbury.

Franchise owners Michelle and Jeff Davis of Lakeville decided to open the location in Woodbury to "fill the gap for therapeutic massage."

"We strictly focus on therapeutic massage," Michelle Davis said, adding that massage therapists customize each massage based on individuals' needs.

Although there are a number of providers for the service in Woodbury, she said her eight-room business is strictly for massage as opposed to various salon services.

The reason she got into the business goes back to how she sought massage to help with her own health and wellness routine.

When Davis tried massage for the first time, she was looking to relieve stress of being a sales professional in the corporate world.

She said she was always stretched so thin to the point of exhaustion and it wasn't until she walked into a massage therapy place that she decided to make those visits regular.

"People are so busy these days they don't take time for themselves," she said.

Massage therapy has been proven to increase blood flow, lower high blood pressure, help cure depression and anxiety, release tension and stress and bump up energy levels, Michelle Davis said.

In the eight rooms at Elements Therapeutic Massage, 10 massage therapists with at least 500 accredited hours will help clients relax and rejuvenate.

"They put together a plan to see how they can incorporate massage into their health and wellness routine," Davis said.

The practitioners specialize in deep tissue, hot stone, pre-natal, shiatsu and craniofacial massage.

One thing Davis said she plans to emphasize is the continued education for her therapists.

"A lot of therapists burn out really quickly in this industry," she said.

So in addition to customizing massages based on each therapist's specialty, she said she plans to bring in professionals who will give seminars.

The partnership between Michelle and Jeff Davis will bring about the skills they both learned while working in sales and management, Michelle Davis said.

She's passionate about bringing continuing training and education to the business, while he is skilled at building a cohesive team.

"The education really doesn't stop when they get out of class," she said of massage therapists, adding that she's hoping to increase the length of time they stay in the industry by helping them take care of their own bodies too.

"They wear their bodies out too quickly," she said.

Limiting how many massages her therapists do in a day with reasonable breaks in between will help eliminate that problem, Davis said.

Elements Therapeutic Massage is a nationwide franchise with locations in Eden Prairie, Edina and Maple Grove.

Davis said she plans to open three more locations over the next few years.

"We really do feel like we're making a difference in people's lives one massage at a time," she said.
