Local author Karen Pavlicin receives honors for books

Woodbury author Karen Pavlicin received awards for two books in Los Angeles May 30. Her children's fiction book, "Perch, Mrs. Sackets, and Crow's Nest" won a Silver Independent Publisher Book Award (an IPPY) and her latest nonfiction book, "Life After Deployment: Military families share reunion stories and advice" received an honorable mention for ForeWord Magazine's Book of the Year. Pavlicin's novel was selected from 3,175 entries from 16 countries around the world.

The same weekend, "Perch, Mrs. Sackets, and Crow's Nest" was honored as one of three finalists for the Benjamin Franklin Award, recognizing excellence in independent publishing, at a gala at the Los Angeles Grand Wilshire. The book was also a finalist for ForeWord Magazine's Book of the Year Award in juvenile fiction.
