Thanks to Sen. Kathy Saltzman, DFL-Woodbury, for her vote to remove the ban on considering additional nuclear power in Minnesota.
The measure passed the Senate 42-24 on April 2. The proposed legislation still faces a challenge in the House where it stalled after being defeated in a committee vote.
We're disappointed and frustrated by the shortsightedness of the existing state policy to not even allow consideration of additional nuclear power among the menu of energy choices. Removing Minnesota's outdated ban is important for our state's energy future.
Nuclear power must be an option to ensure reliable and competitively priced electricity for all Minnesotans.
