Letter: Follow the political rhetoric
It was not long ago that many Social Democrats (read Democrats) were scandalized because the national debt was approaching 500 billion dollars. Fast forward: the new occupant of the White House suggests that we may have annual federal deficits of a trillion dollars for some time to come.
If that happens, it seems that our leftist friends should be doubly scandalized. But probably not. Or if they are, they won't fault their new hero.
They will probably tell us, rather, that huge deficits are a consequence of Bush's policies, a part of the Bush legacy.
Or will they tell us that a trillion here or there doesn't matter, that massive deficit spending in a good cause is really a good thing.
In any event, it will be interesting to follow the rhetoric as it shifts with the political winds.
