Woodbury Blue fell behind early Wednesday against Oakdale at Woodbury High School and never found a way back into the game in an 8-3 loss.

Oakdale built a 6-0 lead after the top of the second inning and had an 8-1 lead by the third inning. Woodbury Blue managed a pair of runs in the fifth, but its offense struggled much of the night.

"We didn't come back and respond like I would have liked to have seen," Woodbury Blue head coach Justin Feldkamp said. "We gotta' rebound better basically."

Feldkamp said the team hit the ball hard, but right at the opponent. Woodbury Blue finished with just five hits in the game.

Nick Yan finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and Ryan Scanlon went 2-for-3 with a two-run double for Woodbury Blue.

Ben Meyer started for Woodbury Blue (4-6) but got chased as Oakdale strung together base hits early.

"He was pounding the zone all day, so he's throwing strikes," Feldkamp said of Meyer. "He wasn't walking anybody, but the problem was when they needed a big hit, they got the big hit."

Dillon Waugh came on in relief and pitched four scoreless innings. Waugh gave up three hits and struck out two.

Woodbury Blue has an extended break, but returns to action July 8 against East Ridge at East Ridge High School.
