Learn about PFC cleanup plan

Email

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) will hold a public meeting on Thursday, July 24, at Woodbury City Hall regarding the proposed plan to clean up perfluorochemicals from the 3M Woodbury disposal site. The site lies on the city's southern border with Cottage Grove, to the east of Woodbury Drive.

The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. with an open house, providing an opportunity for those interested to view displays and speak with MPCA staff. A formal presentation is scheduled at 7 p.m.

3M legally disposed of industrial wastes at the Woodbury site from 1960 to 1966. The site has been identified as a source of perfluorochemicals (PFCs), a family of chemicals used to make household and industrial products such as stain repellents, lubricants, fire retardants and more. 3M made PFCs at its Cottage Grove facility from the late 1940s until 2002.

According to the MPCA, the cleanup plan is still being finalized. However, the agency will make the proposed plan available on its web site later in July, in addition to presenting it at the public meeting.
