Lake Elmo motorcyclist killed in western Wisconsin crash
A Lake Elmo man was killed Monday after his motorcycle left the roadway and crashed in the town of Richmond, Wis.
The St. Croix County Sheriff's Department responded to reports of a one-vehicle crash on County Road A about a quarter mile north of County Road G in the Town of Richmond.
The call came in at 6:55 a.m. Monday, March 19.
According to the report, sometime in the early morning hours, a 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle, driven by Scott Joseph Garavalia, 39, from Lake Elmo, was northbound on County Road A. The motorcycle left the road, entered the east ditch and overturned. Garavalia was ejected from the motorcycle and landed in a field. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a St. Croix County medical examiner.
Garavalia was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Also assisting at the scene were New Richmond Fire and Rescue and New Richmond Area Ambulance Service.
The crash marked the second fatality in a week for Lake Elmo motorcyclists -- 28-year-old Nathan Helmer died March 13 after his motorcycle crashed in Lake Elmo.
This crash was Pierce County's third traffic fatality of 2012.
The crash remains under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff's Department.
The Department is asking anyone with information about the crash, or about Garavalia's whereabouts prior to the crash, to contact Investigator Brent Standaert at 715-381-4390.
