Kosama gym now open in Woodbury
January is a time for resolutions and one more gym in Woodbury is hoping to fulfill the desire for "complete body transformation."
Kosama, a corporate-owned workout studio with 33 locations nationwide, opened this month at the former Blockbuster location at City Centre East.
Equipped with large monitors that track heart rates and calories burned, Kosama can hold classes of up to 30.
General manager Jason Cameric said Kosama strives to help its members achieve their goals with instructors keeping an eye on each heart rate and giving individual tips throughout the classes.
"It's like having an instructor and trainer in one," he said.
Cameric said Kosama focuses on three aspects: muscle confusion, nutrition and consultation.
"People can go to any gym and get a workout," he said. "We sit down, we do a consultation with people anytime."
Kosama's classes fall somewhere between the one-on-one training and group classes.
Classes are held during early mornings into evening, Cameric said, adding that the schedule has been changing over the last two weeks to accommodate the demand.
Each day of the week focuses on one style of training - from body weight, kettle bells and suspension to kickboxing and yoga.
As members walk in, they put on a heart monitor and start seeing numbers on the big screens.
Cameric said seeing the graphs and heart rates up on the screen help maintain a good workout without straining the muscles too much.
Those who are trying to lose weight get hung up on the calorie-burning process, he added. Without breaks, they end up burning sugar and not fat.
The variety of sessions each day of the week, with yoga in the middle, gives a more rounded workout, he added.
"We're keeping the lean muscle that you have," Cameric said. "Your body cannot do the same thing every day. It'll break down."
Saturday at Kosama will be called "circuit Saturday" with stations that allow members to try a different workout in one-minute intervals.
Kosama is open from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday.
