Kirchenwitz named new WHS girls basketball coach
Woodbury High School has a new girls basketball coach.
According to a District 833 news release, Megan Kirchenwitz was hired for the job. Kirchenwitz served as head coach of the Henry Sibley High School girls team last season and previously worked as an assistant coach at Stillwater, Irondale and Centennial high schools. She played college basketball at Concordia University (St. Paul), where she was a member of the 2008 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship team.
"We are very excited to welcome coach Kirchenwitz to the Woodbury High School girls basketball community," said WHS Activities Director Jason Gonnion. "As a collegiate athlete and coach, she has demonstrated a true passion for the game and a commitment to teaching important life lessons both on and off the court."
Kirchenwitz becomes the third coach of the program since longtime coach Dave Preller retired in 2011. Preller was succeeded by Lionel Jones, who resigned after one season. Nathan McGuire followed Jones as the Royals' head coach. McGuire's contract was not renewed by District 833 in March.
