A recent Woodbury house fire was caused by a child playing with a lighter, fire officials concluded.

A boy was playing with a lighter in a garage June 24 at 8620A Savannah Oaks Lane when he lit materials and put them in a plastic trash can in the garage. The trash can contents ignited and quickly grew out of control, the Woodbury Fire Department said.

The fire spread into the house, but three kids at home alone escaped unharmed with their dog. Their ages were not released, but fire officials said at least one of the youths appeared to be a teenager.

Construction workers nearby saw the smoke and fire. They called 911.
