Hudson Road project to be expanded
Hudson Road will be widened at Manning Avenue/Highway 95 next year when traffic lights are installed at that intersection.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will add left- and right-turn lanes in both directions of Hudson Road when it installs traffic lights there and on Manning Avenue at the ramps to I-94, said Klayton Eckles, city engineer.
Manning Avenue already is designed to accommodate turn lanes and two through lanes at Hudson Road, Eckles said.
The safety improvements target a busy intersection. An estimated 1,100 vehicles were recorded passing through the Hudson Road/Manning Avenue in an hour during peak morning travel, according to a 2006 study. Some 12,000 vehicles a day use Manning Avenue near Hudson Road, and that could jump to 43,000 vehicles daily by 2030.
"It's a pretty busy area," Eckles said.
Woodbury City Council members approved the MnDOT plan Nov. 4 and agreed to pay a small portion of the project. The city's share of the $2.23 million improvements is just $6,500.
"That's a bargain," Eckles said.
Work is expected to begin in April and be complete by November 2010.
