A healthy dumping of March snow led to a snow day on Tuesday -- and created some outdoor adventures for Woodbury students.

Students climbed to the top of a hill along Highpointe Road, where they jumped, skidded and sledded through the newly fallen snow. According to the National Weather Service, about 9 inches of snow was reported around the Twin Cities, courtesy of a snowstorm that began falling heavily overnight.

While some found ways to enjoy the snow, others did their civic duty. Woodbury resident Jill Sullivan cleared a fire hydrant in the front yard of her Montrose Road home, with a little help from her daughter, Claire.

The daughter of a firefighter, Jill Sullivan said she felt an obligation to clear the way.

"It's in my blood to shovel this out," she said.

More seasonable temperatures appeared on their way -- after what's predicted to be a frigid Tuesday night.

Tonight's low is expected to reach 9 degrees, though a sunny Wednesday should give way to a high of 30, according to the NWS.

Highs for Thursday and Friday were projected at 35 and 36, respectively.
