The Minnesota National Guard's "Beyond the Yellow Ribbon" campaign held a Yellow Ribbon Summit at the college to recognize members of the community who have developed a network of support for deployed Guard service members and their families.

Over the last year the local community members have worked to establish Woodbury as an official "Yellow Ribbon" city, a designation given to communities with an established network of people, businesses and organizations that have laid the groundwork necessary to assist families of soldiers serving overseas.

At Tuesday's event Pawlenty and the National Guard officially presented the Woodbury Yellow Ribbon Network with a proclamation as one of the first cities to join the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon campaign.

Pawlenty said the recognized organizations demonstrate that "each of us individually and all of us collectively can do something" to aid military members and their families during and after deployment.

Pawlenty also said it's the goal of the "Beyond the Yellow Ribbon" campaign to make Minnesota "the most military friendly state in the nation."

Other cities recognized at the event were Stillwater and Hugo. Washington and Isanti counties also received proclamations for their efforts to support military families.

Two churches and five companies received the Yellow Ribbon proclamation as well.
