Going Way Back, with a nine-patty burger
A new restaurant that features old timey hand-dipped shakes and a nine-patty burger famous for drawing competitions will open its first Minnesota location in Woodbury.
Jake's Wayback Burgers is set to open in the City Centre area near Radio Drive this October, according to corporate officials.
Primarily a burgers and fries restaurant, Jake's Wayback Burgers is a franchise that opened its first location in 1991 in Newark, Del., and is now expanding in the United States and overseas in the Middle East.
All the beef products are fresh, said director of marketing Gillian Maffeo, with the top selling item dubbed the "Double Big and Jake Burger."
But one of the "novelty items" would have to be the "Triple Triple," a nine-patty burger that acts as an attraction and an opportunity for some locations to host burger eating contests.
"Some people want to try to eat it as fast as they can," Maffeo said. "One of the stores had (a contest) and a customer ate it in a minute and five seconds, which is shocking. That burger is huge."
Maffeo said that's not the only draw though. Jake's Wayback Burgers' menu will have house made chips, a number of different sides, garden salads, crispy chicken sandwiches, turkey burgers and chicken burgers.
The restaurant will also serve 12 different flavors of hand-dipped milkshakes, keeping with the nostalgic theme and old-timey feel.
"It's not just something made out of a machine," Maffeo said. "It's made from real ice cream, milk and hand-dipped."
Jake's Wayback Burgers has 75 locations nationwide.
