Power outages spilled into Saturday -- and possibly longer -- in Woodbury following the second consecutive night of intense storms.

Xcel Energy reported nearly 1,500 customers in Woodbury were without power at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. The utility company warned that restoration efforts would be prolonged due to the extent of the storms around the Twin Cities and beyond. According to Xcel's outage map, power was not expected to be restored to some Woodbury customers until noon Sunday.

"Last night's storm produced heavy rain, strong winds, lightning and hail, resulting in significant damage to our distribution infrastructure in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. The number of customers impacted by the new weather event is now estimated at 276,000," according to a statement from Xcel.

A storm that dumped high levels of rain in a short period of time and packed high winds moved through the area around 8 p.m. Friday. More rain and thunderstorms rumbled through Woodbury in the overnight hours.

According to National Weather Service reports, Friday night's storms brought flash-flood conditions to Lake Elmo and Oakdale, while reports from Hudson indicated more than 2 inches of rain fell in a 30-minute period there.
