Most Americans will needlessly expose themselves to risks associated with identity theft this holiday season. Identity theft is the fastest growing crime in the world and more than one in four Americans will have their identity stolen in one way or another in 2008 alone.

A free seminar sponsored by Brickwell Community Bank on "How To Prevent Identity Theft during the Holidays" will be held Saturday, Nov. 22 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The event will take place at the Woodbury High School lecture hall, 2665 Woodlane Drive.

The presenter will be Chad Goehring. He holds certifications as a loss mitigation consultant, a credit restoration specialist and an identity theft risk management specialist.

The seminar will cover topics such as:

• Where is the highest risk of ID theft during the holidays?

• How to avoid ID theft while shopping in retail stores

• How to avoid ID theft while shopping online

• What exact steps to take if you lose your wallet

• What exact steps to take if you leave your credit card somewhere

• What instrument should you use to purchase all gifts?

Participants will be eligible to win a DVD player or one of three gift cards, courtesy of Brickwell Community Bank. Refreshments will be served.
