Free backyard composting workshop May 12
The city of Woodbury is offering a free residential backyard composting class for local residents on Tuesday, May 12, at 7 p.m.
The one-hour workshop will be presented by Master Gardener Lynne Markus and is intended to give participants the necessary knowledge to set up and maintain their own backyard composting bin.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the average U.S. citizen will generate 474 pounds of food waste over the course of one year.
Maintaining a home compost bin can help reduce waste and transform food scraps -- along with yard trimmings and leaves -- into a mixture that can be used to improve soil.
The use of compost also may significantly reduce your use of fertilizer and water in the garden.
The workshop takes place in the City Council Chambers on the second floor of Woodbury City Hall, 8301 Valley Creek Road. Pre-registration is not required.
