Fox Sports North, KSTC-45 to televise Minnesota United FC’s final games
The Minnesota United football club’s final two home matches of the 2013 regular season will be televised. Fox Sports North will televise the United’s match against the Carolina RailHawks Saturday, Oct. 19, at 2:30 p.m. and KSTC-45 TV will televise the club’s home finale on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 6 p.m. versus the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.
“We are excited about our partnerships with Fox Sports North and KSTC-45 TV to bring local professional soccer into the homes of sports fans,” said United President Nick Rogers. “This is a great step for us as we continue to build momentum and support in a market that wants to see professional soccer succeed at the highest level.”
Woodbury High School graduates Brian and Brent Kallman both play for Minnesota United FC, the state’s professional soccer club.
In addition, Minnesota United is planning on calling Woodbury its home for training starting in 2014 and is funding a $1.5 million, 7,000 square foot addition to Bielenberg Sports Complex as part of the Woodbury facility’s current a $21.8 million expansion.
The team is a member of the North American Soccer League (NASL), which along with Major League Soccer (MLS) is governed by the U.S. Soccer Federation. MN United FC was the NASL Champion in 2011 and runner-up in 2012, and plays its home games at the National Sports Center (NSC) in Blaine.
Both broadcasts will be produced by the club’s Technical Operations Producer, Brad Baker. Baker joined Minnesota United in March and brings experience from the Washington Redskins, NFL Network and University of Georgia to lead the broadcast department for the club. Chris Lidholm, long time Minnesota soccer announcer, will perform play-by-play duties, along with color commentator Buzz Lagos. Lagos is the father of current United Head Coach, Manny Lagos, and was the Head Coach of the Minnesota Thunder for 16 years until he retired in 2005. Local radio and television personality, Lindsay Guentzel, will be the sideline reporter for both broadcasts.
“Brad and his team already produce network quality broadcasts of our home games through our live online stream, but our goal has been broadcasts on TV to make us even more accessible to sports fans in Minnesota,” Rogers said.
