It was a day of firsts for Megan and Jeff Haider last Wednesday.

Not only did the North St. Paul couple celebrate the first day of 2014, they also celebrated the birth of their first child, a daughter named Raelynn Jo, who was also celebrating a first – being the first baby of 2014 born in Woodbury.

Raelynn Joe was the first baby born at Woodbury’s Woodwinds Health Campus in 2014. She was born at 4:59 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

She weighed 7.96 pounds.

“She knew it was her time to come and she was ready,” Megan said.

The first baby born in the Twin Cities was born at 12:19 a.m. on New Year’s Day at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids.

Megan and Jeff headed into Woodwinds at about 12:20 a.m.

Megan’s due date was actually Jan. 1, so having a New Year’s baby wasn’t that much of a surprise.

In fact, Megan and Jeff were nervous that Raelynn Jo would share her birthday with Jeff, whose birthday is Jan. 4.

“We were a little scared,” Jeff said.

Megan said the birth went relatively smooth, except she was in a lot of pain.

“It really wasn’t that good of a day,” she said.

Megan and Jeff said they are looking forward to having their New Year’s baby at home.

“It will be fun to celebrate her birthday,” Megan said.
