Edible bouquets for any occasion
A former flight instructor has taken on a completely new venture.
Candace Schmitt now owns Edible Arrangements in Woodbury, located at the Tamarack Village Shopping Center.
The store has been busy since it opened late last year in the midst of the holiday season and then again during the month of February for Valentine's Day. It was gearing up for more popular holidays like St. Patrick's Day last week with a grand opening to treat customers.
Edible Arrangements is a nationwide company with franchisees in the metro area that take orders for same-day deliveries and pick-ups. The Woodbury store makes deliveries all over the east metro to Hudson, Stillwater, White Bear Lake, Eagan, Burnsville and St. Paul.
"This I thought was a good concept. Woodbury didn't have one yet and I'm always up for a challenge so I thought I'd try something new," Schmitt said.
The store is equipped with a full kitchen where production takes place and a reception area where sample arrangements are displayed.
Customers have a number of options to choose from - more than 150 arrangements, to be exact. They can either order online or stop in to choose the arrangements or fruit boxes. The staff then preps the orders and they're ready to go within 15 minutes.
"There is something for any occasion," Schmitt said.
And it's not just for the holidays. Schmitt said fruit arrangements are becoming popular for hospital visits, birthday parties and even weddings.
Schmitt said after working for a staffing company as a branch manager, then a flight instructor and pilot, she decided to take on a new challenge with Edible Arrangements.
She attended training sessions in New York and Connecticut where she learned the ins and outs of making the all-edible fruit bouquets, then a company representative visited the Woodbury store to train the rest of the staff.
"They knew I was in a hurry to open before the holidays," she said.
The job comes with a variety of perks. But one of her favorites is the glow customers receiving arrangements have in their eyes when they learn loved ones ordered them the fruit bouquets.
"And usually the smile on someone's face when they come in and get their arrangements," she added.
Edible Arrangements is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
