East Ridge wrestling: Lyden, Thompson place in Ruckus
East Ridge had two wrestlers place second Saturday at the East Ridge Ruckus Tournament at Concordia University in St. Paul.
Seniors Ryan Thompson and Reid Lyden each took second place to lead the Raptors.
Wayzata’s Nick O’Brien, who is ranked second at 132 pounds, defeated East Ridge’s third-ranked Reid Lyden 6-4 in the 132-pound championship. Lyden pinned Eastview’s Tyler Lindgren in 1 minute, 45 seconds to start the day and beat Stewartville’s Alex Higgins 4-1 to advance to the championship match.
Thompson lost by fall against St. Thomas Academy’s Josh Tarum in the championship match by fall. Thompson pinned Tri-City United’s Zach Mikel in the first round in 2:40, pinned Hastings’ Derek Edwards in 1:56 and beat Wayzata’s Boyd Mumbuwa 6-5 in the semifinals.
Davonte McClam finished in sixth place to give the Raptors three placewinners. McClam lost 4-2 to Zumbrota-Mazeppa’s Noah Prodzinski in the fifth-place match.
Josh Stensgard lost in the consolation semifinals at 138 pounds, Jamze Power lost in the consolation semifinals at 145 and Nate Tigges lost in the consolation semifinals at 182.
Zumbrota-Mazeppa won the tournament with 192.5 points. Waconia finished second with 185.5 and Wayzata took third with 135.5 points. East Ridge finished 10th out of 16 teams with 71 points.
The Raptors face Roseville and White Bear Lake Thursday in Roseville.
