East Ridge wrestling: Illness, match count totals hinder Raptors wrestlers

The East Ridge wrestling team had two tough triangular meets over the past week that were made worse by illness and match count limits.

Throughout the four dual meets over a two-day span, the Raptors won just 10 individual matches, though many of the varsity wrestlers were not participating.

On Thursday, East Ridge traveled to Suburban East Conference power Hastings to take on the eighth-ranked Raiders and the Mounds View Mustangs.

The Raptors lost to host Hastings 68-8, as only two East Ridge wrestlers winning matches and Hastings received five forfeited victories.

Ryan Thompson (113 pounds) won by a score of 7-1, and Reid Lyden (126) major decisioned his opponent 17-2.

At the same place and evening, East Ridge lost to Mounds View 56-19.

Four East Ridge wrestlers won their match, and one of the wins was by fall and two others were technical falls.

Winning by pin for the Raptors Kiry Koy (145), and Lyden finished his night 2-0 with a technical fall victory at 126.

Also winning for East Ridge at the lower weights was Ryan Thompson (113) and Jake Trevis (120), who also won by technical fall.

On Friday, the Raptors were at Rosemount for a triangular against the host school and Farmington.

East Ridge was blanked by Rosemount, losing 63-0 in a dual that saw many junior varsity wrestlers stepping up to the big stage.

Emilio Huerta (152) lost a tight contest in overtime, and eighth-grader Ty Okada (106) lost 3-1 to begin the night.

Farmington was able to beat the down-trodden Eagles next by a score of 59-20.

Lyden (120) and Koy (145) won the only two matches for East Ridge, both winning by major decisions.

Zach Dreher (182) and David Kroger (195) each received forfeits.

Next up for East Ridge is Parents Night at the Perch on Thursday. The Raptors host Cretin-Derham Hall in conference action starting at 6 p.m. Following the conclusion of that match, East Ridge will then face Minneapolis Edison.
