"It feels really good," captain Erika Jensen, who thanked the team's parents as well as the "Superfans," said. "It's really exciting to do this in our first year."

The Raptors logged a score of 231 to top second-place DeLaSalle (195) and last year's champion, Jackson County Central (189), which finished third.

"It really is (gratifying)," coach Cindy Lambert said. "I am very thankful and grateful to the girls and to the parents for all their hard work and sacrifice this season."

East Ridge competed in the classification requisite to the size of the school and club. However, the Raptors' score would have also claimed the Division I (large school) Medium championship and would have come within one point of taking the D-I Large/Super Large crown.

"With no seniors, our school's enrollment had the team in the "small school" division," Lambert said. "Next year, we will be in with the big schools."

The victory brought East Ridge's record to 7-0 on the season as the squad prepares to cap its inaugural campaign on Feb. 19-20 at the UPA National Championship Meet at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

"I hope we can go 8-0," Jensen said.
