East Ridge volleyball: Raptors go 1-1 in pair of conference games
The East Ridge volleyball team ended its week with a win and a loss in Suburban East Conference matches against Cretin-Derham Hall and White Bear Lake.
The Raptors dropped a tough match to Cretin-Derham Hall Tuesday night before beating White Bear Lake on Thursday. East Ridge is currently 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the SEC.
The Raptors lost on the road to Cretin-Derham Hall 3-0 (23-25, 20-25 and 23-25.) The loss put East Ridge to a 1-1 conference record after they defeated Mounds View last week.
Senior captain Margaret Eggert led the team with 16 kills, followed by junior Christenson and sophomore Claire Whitman who each had seven. Sophomore Savannah Lipps had a team-leading 18 digs in the loss, while Eggert had 16.
The Raptors were able to bounce back from the loss to the Raiders (9-2; 3-0 SEC) with a sweep of White Bear Lake on Thursday, Sept. 20.
Behind a complete team effort, East Ridge defeated White Bear Lake 3-0 (25-19, 25-17 and 25-21.) The Raptors were able to utilize a strong serving attack to get the win as the team combined for nine aces during the match against the Bears (3-12; 0-4 SEC).
Eggert led the team with 15 kills, while Christensen and Lipps topped the team stats with 10 and seven digs, respectively. Senior Tess Kelzenberg ended the match with a team-high three aces, and Eggert and junior Makayla Sauro each had two aces.
East Ridge played a non-conference match at home against Eagan on Tuesday after the Bulletin went to press. Next, the Raptors play host to Forest Lake on Thursday at East Ridge High School.
